Creating an At-Home Pamper Routine

it can waitI get it all the time, “I don’t have time to pamper myself”, “My house is so NOT a relaxing place.” I get it. It’s hard to think of your home, the place where you pick up socks, wash dishes and clean up after your family, as a place of peace and serenity. But, with the following tips, and a little imagination, you CAN create a relaxing ambiance in your home. Like I always say, YOU DESERVE IT!

1. Pick an area that doesn’t get a lot of foot traffic.

You can’t have a peaceful environment if you’re zen area is 10 feet from the front door. Not gonna happen! Choose a place like the basement, sun room or spare bedroom.

2. Choose a time of day that lends well to relaxation.

I doubt that kicking up your feet at 4pm on a Wednesday evening is going to be ideal when you have a house full of kids just getting out of school. Instead, wait till the kiddos go to bed and then begin to relax.

3. Soft lighting and some soft stuff.

My relaxing area just happens to be my bedroom. Next to my bed is a bedside lamp with soft lighting. I also have a super soft blanket I like to curl up in. Something soft is a MUST! It just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

4. Pick a relaxing activity.

If you enjoy knitting, do that. Do you like to paint, write, read, or sew? I think the new thing is adult coloring! Whatever it is, go for it! Just make sure it allows you to complete turn off your brain and just simply enjoy that activity.

5. Add some spa treatments.

When people think of relaxing they think of the spa. Why not give yourself a manicure or pedicure? Soak your hands/feet in warm water, push back those cuticles and break out the nail polish. I don’t know about you, but I feel like a new woman every time I get my nails done! Not  fan of doing your nails? Apply a face mask, lay back and read for 20 minutes.

6. Don’t forget the music.

When is the last time you laid back and listened to some slow jams? Break out the Pandora and create a “R&R Playlist”. Add some R. Kelly, Sade, Anita Baker, Lalah Hathaway, Luther Vandross and just let the smooth grooves relax you!

Now the challenge is to enjoy your new pamper regimen AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN! It doesn’t work if you don’t keep at it!
