For MLK weekend, my hubby and I decided to get away and enjoy some alone time together. Little did I know, while it was great to connect with my husband, I also got a chance to enjoy a little “me time” and relax. I’ve heard great things about bed and breakfasts in regards to all the unique decorations and the wonderful breakfast in the mornings, but my experience definitely exceeded my expectations!
First off, there are MILLIONS of B&B’s out there! Once you start looking it’s hard to pick because they are all so intriguing! Sites like AirBnB and BnB Finder were the places I used for my research. (As always, I cross-referenced on TripAdvisor. I never make a travel decision without TA!)
All B&B’s are unique in their own way so you have to know what type of surroundings you want. Do you like rustic? Spa-like? Outdoor activities? Close to the nightlife? Do you just want a bed to lay your head or a luxury suite with all the trimmings? I knew that the only non-negotiable amenity I wanted was a Jacuzzi tub so I could really kick back and relax.
Ultimately, we chose the Amanda Gish House in Elizabethtown, PA which is not far from Hershey. This place instantly made us feel at home! From the quaint decor to the friendliness of Ann the Innkeeper, we were in great hands the entire time!
We had the best room in the place, The Garden Room which didn’t disappoint! Here’s a room description from the website…
The Garden Room is a large, airy room with a view through the bay window of the lovely gardens below. It is decorated with period antiques and a floral comforter on the antique, queen-sized brass bed. There is a table in the bay window for an intimate breakfast for two. The Garden Room is a quiet and comfortable room; you will wake refreshed and relaxed. The Garden Room’s large, luxurious, private bath has a two- person jetted tub, a separate shower and two pedestal sinks making this room a spa-like retreat.
Damn! Doesn’t that sound like a room you need like ASAP? LOL
The best part HANDS DOWN for me was the two-person jetted tub! (Told you it was a must-have!) Oh my goodness ladies! When I tell you that I wanted to live in this bathtub i’m not kidding! For me not having had a massage in awhile, this tub massaged all my aches and pains away and I slept like a baby that night!
The next morning we went downstairs for breakfast and were greeted by Ann and another couple staying at the B&B. Our places at the table were already set and looked lovely. Breakfast, honestly, wasn’t as hearty as I would have liked it to be but it was still nicely presented. We had yogurt parfait, scones, french toast and sausages. It was a fancy-looking meal, but we needed more of it! We ate, chatted with the other couple a bit and went back to our room. Ann was kind enough to extend us a late checkout so I took another bath while Mike caught up on sports!
Overall, I’d definitely recommend the Amanda Gish House. The perfect place for romance, relaxation, reconnecting, reading and curling up to a good movie or book. There are some areas to explore and things to do (Ann knows all about that), but we just wanted to relax. Mission accomplished!
Oh, and visiting a B&B is a bucket list check!
